This body of work focuses on the nude body as an exploration of commentary on the current sexualized environment all around us. I observed the concept of decontextualizing the human figure; no longer is it an arm or a breast- but rather the volume existing within the frame alongside flesh. Alexandre Souêtre was an inspiration in the posing of the bodies, motivated by the minimalist approach to shooting nude figures. I utilized this idea of primary natural light against a flat backdrop to portray a feeling of human flesh. Throughout my career as a photographer I’ve found that it is inherently crucial for me to create work that has meaning; for myself, the subject, and the viewer. Photography offers an intimate and unique opportunity to communicate to the viewer in the most primal sense. It is raw. Through this body of work, I aim to communicate a sense of both abstraction and intimacy. There is discomfort when we examine ourselves closely, but also care, consideration, vulnerability, connectivity. I pulled in and out in camera. often as we look at ourselves in mirrors.
